Situated in Yolo County, California, the city of Davis is home to the University of California at Davis. In 2006, it was ranked by CNN Money Magazine as the second most educated city in the country, with only Arlington, Virginia, beating it out. The community sprouted up around the railroad depot built in 1868 and was originally called Davisville, after a local farmer. In 1907, the new post office shortened the name to Davis, and so it stayed.
