Russellville is the seat of Pope County, Arkansas. Between 1818 and 1828, the area was part of a Cherokee Reservation but the Cherokee were moved to what is now Oklahoma in 1828, making the land available for white settlement. Before the town was known as Russellville, it went by a few different names, including Chactas Prairie, The Prairie, and Cactus Flats.
