Jonesboro is one of three county seats of Craighead County, Arkansas. Although hunters and trappers were in the area previously, a permanent settlement of Jonesboro was set up sometime after 1815, and named for State Senator William A. Jones. Originally spelled Jonesborough, its name was later shortened.
