The capital of Arizona, Phoenix, is also its largest city. The county seat of Maricopa County, it was founded by a veteran of the Civil War named Jack Swilling, who first called it Punpkinville It was latter called Swilling's Mill, and still later Helling Mill, and then Mill City. Eventually, it was named East Phoenix, and finally, the current-day Phoenix.
