The Magee Campus of Ulster University is in Derry, occupying the campus of the former Magee College. Magee College opened in 1865 as a Presbyterian arts and theological college. The decision to base Northern Ireland's second university in Coleraine rather than Derry contributed to the formation of the Catholic civil rights movement that led to the Troubles, particularly given that Derry was more closely associated with higher learning.
The Magee Campus is one of four campuses of Ulster University. It offers a large array of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes through its four faculties: Arts, Humanities and Social Services, Computing, Engineering, and the Built Environment, Life and Health Sciences, and the Ulster Business School.
