Marion Morrison (May 26, 1907 - June 11, 1979), better known as John Wayne, was born in Winterset, Iowa. His family moved to Los Angeles four years later. He starred in 142 films in his life. He relocated to Orange County in 1960, and he became an outspoken member of the Republican Party, one of a few in Hollywood. He was married three times and had seven children. He was diagnosed with lung cancer in 1964, and surgery removed his left lung and four ribs; he was in remission five years later. He died of stomach cancer.
