Charlize Theron, a native of South Africa, was born August 7, 1975. When she was a teenager, her father, an alcoholic, physically attacked her mother, who then shot and killed him. It was ruled self-defense. Charlize came to America at the age of 16 due to a one-year modeling contact, and she stayed to get into acting. She became a naturalized citizen of the United States in 2007 and retains her South African citizenship. She has never been married but adopted a son in 2012. They live in Los Angeles.
