Mary Louise Streep, who later changed her name to Meryl Streep, was born on June 22, 1949 in Summit, New Jersey. Her mother was an art editor and her father was a pharmaceutical executive. She graduated from Vassar College and Yale School of Drama. She lived with the late actor John Cazale in the 1970s until his death from lung cancer in March 1978. That September, she married sculptor Don Gummer, with whom she has four children.
