Born Virginia McMath on July 16, 1911 in Independence, Missouri, Ginger Rogers was the child of parents who separated when she was still an infant. She stayed with her grandparents in Kansas City for a couple of years while her mother stayed in Hollywood, writing scripts. When she was 9, her mother married John Rogers, whose last name Ginger took. They moved to Fort Worth. She was married and divorced 5 times and had no children.
