Gilda Radner (June 28, 1946 - May 20, 1989) was born in Detroit, Michigan. She was raised by a nanny, and it was this woman on whom she based Emily Litella's character. She is best known as an original cast member of Saturday Night Live. In her autobiography, she stated that she coped with the stresses in her life "by having every possible eating disorder from the time I was nine years old." She was wrestling with bulimia during her tenure on SNL. She was married briefly to a musician who worked on SNL, and then to comedian Gene Wilder in 1984 in Saint-Tropez. She died of ovarian cancer.
