Richard Pryor (December 1, 1940 - December 10, 2005) was a comedian, writer, actor, and social critic who was known for his stark and uncensored examinations of racism and other issues in America. Born and raised in Peoria, Illinois, he was raised by his grandmother in her brothels after his mother abandoned him. He was married 7 times, including twice each to Jennifer Lee and Flynn Belaine and fathered 6 children. In 1980, he set himself on fire in a drug-induced psychosis, suffering burns on more than half his body, and he had multiple sclerosis. He died in Encino, California of a heart attack.
