A student of Socrates, Plato was a classical Greek philosopher, mathematician, author, and founder of the Academy in Athens. Along with his mentor, Socrates, and his student, Aristotle, Plato is credited with laying the foundations of Western philosophy and science. He lived from 428/427 BC to 348/347 BC.
