The heavy metal band Metallica was founded in Los Angeles in 1981 and has released nine studio albums and four live albums as well as numerous videos and singles. They were among the musical artists who sued Napster for violating their copyright by sharing their music for free without the consent of any of the members. The suit was settled with Napster going pay-to-use instead of free.
