James Leno, known more frequently as Jay Leno, was born April 28, 1950 in New Rochelle, New York. His mother was an immigrant from Scotland, and his father was the son of immigrants from Italy. Jay grew up in Andover, Massachusetts and has been diagnosed as dyslexic. He was a standup comic and frequent quest on the Tonight Showd staring in 1978 before being named as Johnny Carson's replacement as host in 1992. He left the show briefly in June 2009 but came back in March 2010. He has been married to his wife, Mavis, since 1980, and they have no children. On February 6, 2014, he retired, apparently for good and was replaced by Jimmy Fallon.
