Gene Kelly (August 23, 1912 - February 2, 1996) dancer and actor, was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His father was born in Ontario, Canada. He studied journalism when he got to college, but the stock market crash in his freshman year forced him home to help his family. He and his younger brother practiced dancing and won prize money in local contests and he performed in night clubs. He began dancing in movies in 1941 and was soon a star. He was married three times and had three children; he died in Beverly Hills of complications from a stroke.
