Boris Karloff (November 23, 1887 - February 2, 1969) was born William Henry Pratt in London. His great aunt, Anna Leonowens, was the original Anna, whose life in the royal court of Siam, now called Thailand, was the basis for the book “Anna and the King of Siam,” and the musical “The King and I.” Boris is best known for his horror films, particularly his role as Frankenstein’s monster in “Frankenstein,” “Bride of Frankenstein,” and “Son of Frankenstein.” Although he lived and worked much of his life in the United States, he never became an American citizen, nor did he change his name legally to Boris Karloff. He was married six times and had one child. He died in England of pneumonia.
