David Thomas “Davy” Jones (December 30, 1945 - February 29, 2012) was born in Manchester, England. His mother died of emphysema when he was 14. He dropped out of high school in order to become an jockey but left that apprenticeship to take a role in a production of Oliver! in London. It was there that he decided he wanted to perform. He is best known for his role in The Monkees, a series about a rock band by the same name which ran from 1966 to 1971. He was married three times and had four children. He died of a heart attack in Florida.
