The British heavy metal band known as Iron Maiden was formed in London in 1975 and became wildly famous in the early 1980s despite the fact that they had little television or even radio play. They have sold more than 85 million records, making them one of the most successful heavy metal bands in history. The have as a mascot Eddie, a disembodied head which was originally a mask made of papier-mache and has been featured in video games, t-shirts, and other band-related merchandise.
