Whitney Houston (August 9, 1963 - February 11, 2012) was a model, singer, and actress who was born in Newark, New Jersey. Her mother was gospel singer Cissy Houston and her father was an entertainment executive. The family moved to East Orange, New Jersey after the 1967 Newark riots. She met singer Bobby Brown in 1989 and they were married in 1992. She gave birth to her only child, Bobbi Kristina in 1993. By the late 1990s, she had dropped an alarming amount of weight, and rumors began to fly about the couple using drugs. By the early 2000s, it was clear that the rumors were true, though she was in recovery by early 2012. She was found unconscious in the Beverly Hilton in a bathtub and her death was ruled "accidental drowning."
