Johnny Allen Hendrix, better known as Jimi Hendrix (November 27, 1942 - September 18, 1970) was born in Seattle. He is still considered by many to be one of the most influential guitarists in the history of music. His father, Al, was drafted and sent to war three days after he married Jimi’s mother, Lucille. When Al returned, they changed Jimi's name to James Marshall Hendrix. Jimi had a rocky childhood, most of it spent poor and transient. He was nine when his parents were divorced and he went to live with his father. Jimi played professionally from 1964 until his death, which was ruled "an open verdict" due to lack of evidence. It is thought he overdosed on barbiturates.
