Archibald Leach, later known as Cary Grant (January 18, 1904 - November 29, 1986) was born in Bristol, England to a mother who was clinically depressed after she lost the child before him. His father had her put in a mental institution when Cary was 9, and told him that she had gone on a vacation, and then he also abandoned the child less than a year later. It was not until Cary was 31 years old that he learned the truth about his mother and found her in an institution. He was married 5 times and had one daughter. He died of a stroke in Davenport, Iowa.
