James Garner, born James Scott Bumgarner, came into this world on April 7, 1928 in Norman, Oklahoma. His mother died when was five years old, after which he and his two brothers were sent to live with relatives, and moved back with their father in 1934 when he remarried. Her abuse of the three sons ended the marriage. He never graduated but joined the U.S. Army and was wounded twice in the Korean War. He has been married to the same woman since 1956, they have two daughters, and live in Los Angeles. He suffered a major stroke in April of 2013 and is in grave condition.
