Marie Magdalene Dietrich, known by the world as Marlene Dietrich (December 27, 1901 - May 6, 1992) was born in Berlin, Germany. She began her professional life as a chorus girl after a wrist injury prevented her dreams of being a concert violinist. She married her husband, Rudolf Sieber in May of 1923 and remained married to him until his death in 1976. Together they had one daughter, Maria. Marlene's role in “The Blue Angel” brought her international fame, and she became an American citizen in 1939, and she died in Paris, France in 1992.
