Born January 24, 1941, in Brooklyn, New York, singer Neil Diamond's parents were from Russia and Poland. He has been writing and singing songs since 1962. He has written such well-known songs as “I’m a Believer,” “Solitary Man,” and “Heartlight.” In 1979, he collapsed on stage at a San Francisco concert and it was discovered that he had a tumor on his spine. He still suffers from chronic back pain. Although he has long been the third most successful adult contemporary artist, he did not get his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame until 2012.
