Known professionally as John Denver, the singer, songwriter, actor, and activist was born Henry John Deutschendorf, Jr. Growing up in a military family, John Denver began his music career in folk music groups in the late 1960s, but his greatest successes began as a solo songer in the 1970s, recording approximately three hundred songs, most of which he composed. He lived in Aspen, Colorado for much of his life, dying in a plane crash on October 12, 1997. He was fifty-three years old.
