James Byron Dean (February 8, 1931-September 30, 1955) was born in Marionk, Indiana, though the family soon moved to Santa Monica, California. His mother died of cancer when he was nine, and his father sent him to live with his sister in Fairmount, Indiana on a farm,. He was known for his portrayal of characters full of teenaged angst. His short career had him staring in three movies: “East of Eden,” “Rebel Without a Cause,” and “Giant”. He died in a car crash near Paso Robles, California, when he his a 1950 Ford Tudor Coupe head-on while breaking in his 550 Spyder, which he was going to race in Salinas.
