Born in Metairie, Louisiana on January 26, 1958, Ellen DeGeneres is an American comedian, former star of her own comedy series, and hostess of the daytime variety show, “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.” She declared that she was gay in 1997, and the resulting media coverage sent her into a depression and signaled the beginning of the end of her comedy series, Ellen. She and her partner, Portia de Rossi were married in California in August of 2008, and they are among the small number of same-sex couples whose marriages in that state were validated by the Supreme Court. They live in Beverly Hills.
