Bette Davis (April 5, 1908 - October 6, 1989) was the star of film, theater, and television. Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, she was known for her portrayal of unsympathetic and repugnant characters and played in historical and period pieces as well as melodramatic films. Her films are too numerous to list here, but they include ”Mr. Skeffington,” “All About Eve,” and "What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?" She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1983 and had a mastectomy. In the next two weeks, she had four strokes, causing paralysis on her left side. She died in France at the age of 81.
