Known for his 1950s television series Highway Patrol, Broderick Crawford (December 9, 1911 - April 26, 1986) comes from a long line of actors and vaudevillians. Born in Philadelphia, Crawford suffered from alcoholism as well as a gourmand, the latter of which resulted in numerous arrests for drunk driving and, eventually, a suspended license, by the real life California Highway Patrol, the irony of which caused them embarrassment. Crawford, who was also in numerous movies, hosted Saturday Night Live in 1977. He died in Rancho Mirage, California, after a series of strokes. He had been married three times and had two sons.
