Born May 20, 1946 in El Centro, California, Cherilyn Sarkisian is far better known as Cher. Her mother was married and divorced eight times, three of those to her father. She dropped out of school and moved out of her mother’s home when she was 16, moving in with a friend in Los Angeles where she sang for a living in Hollywood clubs. She met Sonny Bono in 1965 and they became Sonny and Cher. She has starred in movies, television shows, and records. After her divorce from Sonny, with whom she had a daughter Chastity, she married Gregg Allman. She filed for divorce nine days later due to his addiction to heroin. They reconciled and were married until 1979. During that time, she gave birth to a son, Elijah Blue.
