Born in Los Angeles on December 4, 1949, Jeff Bridges, son of Lloyd Bridges and brother of Beau Bridges, is best known for his acting, though he is also a cartoonist, storyteller, photographer, and producer as well. His brother, Garrett, died of sudden infant death syndrome in 1948. When he graduated from high school, Jeff moved to New York City to study acting. That same year he joined and served for eight years in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve. He has studied Buddhism and meditates for half an hour before work. He lives in Montecito, California.
