Sonny Bono, (February 16, 1935 - January 5, 1998) born Salvatore Bono, gained fame as half of the musical duo Sonny & Cher>. The musical duo were television stars married to one another, and by the time they were divorced, they had a daughter Chastity. Sonny entered politics when he became the mayor of Palm Springs. He later ran unsuccessfully for Senate, and the next election, won the race for member of the House of Representatives. A Scientologist, Sonny was killed in a skiing accident in January 1998. His headstone reads “And the beat goes on.”
