Ludwig van Beethoven (baptized December 7, 1770 - March 26, 1827) was born in Bonn, Germany, though we are not sure what date. He showed himself to be musically gifted, and his father, a musician with an alcohol problem, taught his the discipline of music. He played his first recital in public when he was seven years old and published his first work when he was 12. His musical output was gigantic, and by the time was 26, he was suffering from tinnitus and eventually loss his hearing entirely. Due to his social class, he was prevented from marrying the woman he loved, and he died single.
