English novelist Jane Austen (December 16, 1775 - July 18, 1817) was born in Hampshire, England to a father who was the rector of the Anglican parishes in the village in which Jane was born. She was encouraged to read by her father and her brothers. She died of what was diagnosed in 1964 as Addison's disease, though the actual illness she last had was bovine tuberculosis.
