John Adams (October 30, 1735 - July 4, 1826) was born in what is now Quincy, Massachusetts. A Harvard-trained lawyer Adams married his third cousin Abigail Smith with whom he had six children. He drafted the resolution which called upon the colonies to adopt a declaration of independence and then was appointed to a committee, along with Thomas Jefferson, Robert R. Livingston, Roger Sherman, and Benjamin Franklin, to draft that document. He served as America's first Vice President, its second President, and father of the sixth President of the United States.
