Our People & Daily Life tree is one of our more eclectic ones, covering a variety of topics related to living from day to day, as well as those having to do with people, pets, and domesticated animals.
Daily life, everyday life, and routine life are ways in which we commonly think, feel, and act on a daily basis. Daily life can be described as mundane, routine, natural, habitual, or normal.
Routines may differ from person to person, from culture to culture, or from place to place, in that some people have jobs that require them to live atypical lives, while others are nomadic, which would differ from those who live sedentary lives. Urban people or suburban people live differently from those who live in rural areas. There are also differences in the lives of the rich and the poor, or laborers and intellectuals. Differences also exist based on the age of the individual. Children, teenagers, young adults, middle-aged adults, and seniors have lives that may differ dramatically, even within the same individual.
People's daily lives are also influenced by language and communication. We choose what to do with our time based on opinions and ideals that have been formed through discourse, which may involve the mass media.
Main topics in this category, at this point, include Beauty, Consumer Reports & Information, Holidays & Celebrations, House & Home, Lifestyles, Luminaries, Pets & Domesticated Animals, Philanthropy, and Relationships.
Physical attractiveness is the degree to which an individual's physical features are viewed as aesthetically pleasing. Although the term is often used to refer to sexual attractiveness, that is not necessarily the case. Physical features are one of several factors that influence an individual's attraction to another, and symmetry is a significant attribute. Ideals in human attractiveness may differ greatly from one culture to another.
Consumer reviews are evaluations and, at times, ratings of products or services completed by someone who has had experience with the product or service. Customer reviews can be a form of customer feedback shopping sites, but there are also dedicated product (or service) review sites, magazines, and other publications. The reviews themselves may be graded for accuracy or usefulness by readers.
Holidays are days that are set aside for festivals, recreation, or observances. Today, many, if not most, holidays are secular, they were originally largely days set aside for religious observances, as in holy days. Several religious holidays, such as Christmas and Easter, are increasingly becoming secularized and commercialized, while others were created for commercial purposes.
A house is a building or dwelling built in order for people to live, while a home is a place where a family or person actually lives, or as a refuge. The difference is subtle and, despite the fact that they are often used interchangeably, the connotations are slightly different.
A house is a building even when no one is living there, while a home is only a home when it is the residence of a person or persons. The House & Home category is an umbrella category for much of what has to do with homes, including home improvement, do-it-yourself projects, apartment living, home ownership, moving and relocating, and rural living.
In other words, a house is a physical building, while a home is a geographical location where someone resides. However, if the structure is a house, that house may also be a home. On the other hand, a home might be an apartment and not a house.
Lifestyle refers to the characteristic way of life of an individual, group, or culture. Typically, an individual's lifestyle reflects his or her attitudes, values, way of life, or worldview, and may include the person's views on health, intimacy, politics, religion, and other aspects of life. Lifestyles are not always voluntary or selected, and this portion of our guide is about those lifestyles chosen by people, as well as those to which they were born, or which developed apart from their own wishes.
Luminaries are individuals who inspire or influence others, particularly those who are prominent in a specific sphere or spheres. While it is difficult to keep up with this area, many of them are highlighted here.
People have been living with pets and domesticated animals for more than 12,000 years. The distinction between domestic animals and pets is not explicit because pets are domesticated animals, while not all domesticated animals are pets. Pets are animals kept for purposes of companionship, while domestic animals are kept for their economic benefits.
Philanthropy is a reference to charitable giving on a large scale. Generally, it is an effort on the part of a wealthy individual or organization undertaken for altruistic desires.
Relationships, of course, are the way in which two or more people are connected.
