The War of 1812 was fought from 1812 to 1815 between the United States and Great Britain over Britain's violation of maritime law.It was fought, to a great extent, in Canada, though it most certainly spilled over into the U.S. It was during this war that the British set fire to, among other places, the White House and the Capitol.
