Gestational diabetes is a medical condition in which normally non-diabetic women present with high blood glucose levels during pregnancy. This is thought by many to be the rsult of the presence of human placental lactogen in the mother’s body, and the idea that it interferes with insulin receptors. Women who do not manage their gestational diabetes are at risk for type 2 diabetes later in life.
