RAD is a personality disorder which affects children, and which usually exhibits itself during early childhood. The disorder manifests in situations where a child does not bond with the mother or mother figure in the first three years or so of life, whether due to neglect, abuse, or severe medical problems. Symptoms include lack of conscience and empathy, trouble understanding cause and effect, and a severe need to control people and events.
