Hepatitis C, which was known from its postulation in the mid-1970s until its solid discovery in 1989 as “non-A, non-B hepatitis.” It is a dangerous disease because it is frequently asymptomatic, and it can lead to cirrhosis, liver cancer, or esophageal and gastric varices relatively soon after diagnosis. There is no vaccine which is effective.
