Everett, Washington is the seat of Snohomish County. The first settlers in Everett arrived in 1861, but it wasn't until 1890 that the town was planned. Two men, Charles Colby and Henry Hewitt, Jr., planned the town while on an Alaskan cruise. They named it after Charles's teen-aged son, who was himself named in honor of the great orator Edward Everett.
