Arlington County, Virginia, is an urban county situated across the Potomac River from the District of Columbia. It was, at one time, part of the District, but it reverted back to Virginia in 1847. Although it is officially called a self-governing county, it serves as a city. It is home to Arlington National Cemetery and the Pentagon.
