Wichita, Kansas is the county seat of Sedgwick County and is situated along the historic Chisholm Trail, making it popular among cowboys engaged in cattle drives. It was incorporated in 1870. Wichita is thought to be the original “Cowtown,” which has been its nickname since that time. Among the sheriffs who served there was Wyatt Earp.
