Chicago, the largest city in Illinois, is situated in Cook County and is nicknamed "The Windy City." Founded in 1833, it was incorporated as a city 4 years later, and soon became a major transportation hub for the nation. It was the site of the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, which burned down more than one-third of the city. The rebuilding of the city produced the first ever skyscraper in the world in 1885.
