Located in Hartford County, Hartford is the capital of the State of Connecticut and the second largest city with a population of approximately 125,000. However, the metro area is the largest in the state with a population over 1,000,000. Since many of the world's insurance companies are headquartered in Hartford, it has been nicknamed "Insurance Capital of the World". Past notable residents include dictionary author Noah Webster, inventor Sam Colt, and author Mark Twain.
