Oakland, California is the eastern terminus of the Oakland Bay Bridge, which originates in San Francisco, 8 miles away. Located in Alameda County, it is a major west coast port, and is considered the hub of the East Bay. Known locally as "Oaktown" and "O-Town," it was the town of which Gertrude Stein stated, "There's no there there."
